When the past is the present and future.

Gather round little ones, it’s time for the ramblings again!

So I’ve been doing a research paper on the subject (puts on hipster face) of Mestizaje (Spanish word!), which means basically to mix race/cultures. It generally refers to Spanish and Indian, Black and Indian or White and Black races. It can get really complicated with all the names etc. Are you still with me? Are you asleep yet? No? Good, lets begin then.
So as we all probably knew, but have forgotten because really, who gives a shit about History? The Spanish invaded the Americas and some people believe that they “conquered” it, but they didn’t really. There was a double conversion that happened. Which is what I’m writing my research about. I’m not going to go into detail too much about it, if you’re interested, then you can read my paper when I’m done.
As many of you know I’m very involved in politics. I’ve helped set up a few debates at my local community college for Mayoral candidates. I’ve been a very hard line or toe the line Libertarian for a while now (since the crazy sauce has subsided enough to let me think). Libertarians for those that don’t know are generally people who want to be left the fuck alone, and for people to mind their own damn business. I know, no wonder it appealed to me! I’m everyone’s favorite crotchety old man! ANYWAY!
Since I’ve been doing this research I’ve noticed something. Politics have kind of fallen by the wayside for me. I mean, I’m still mildly interested in local politics as it directly affects me, but everything else I’m kind of meh about. I don’t even consider myself a Libertarian any more, because honestly, who the fuck cares? Not like their ever going to win anything. Sure I still want to be left the fuck alone, but not one damn politician is ever going to give me that. The Republicans want to know how I’m fucking, whom I’m fucking and when I’m fucking worshiping their god, and am I doing it right? The Democrats want to make my moral decisions for me, which I’m not cool with. Honestly I find myself agreeing with my friend Ben who is a staunch Democrat, which I find hilarious and slightly disturbing, I blame History honestly. I think I’m turning into a Marxist Historian.
I’ve gone off on a tangent again, I’m sorry. My point is that after doing this research about how cultures collide in a big way such as when the Spanish invaded what we call North and South America I’ve kind of decided that it doesn’t really matter. In the end everything goes toward the center of the two sides. Whenever one extreme attempts to take over, there is always a backlash that brings everything back to the center. So things like #OWS, or Herman Cain’s idea of 9 9 9 or the idea that Ron Paul will EVER be president don’t really matter, because in the end, they’re extremes.
Throughout history I see these trends of one side going heavy handed, then the opposite side going heavy handed, but it always goes back to the center. Either from internal or external forces, it always happens.

Thanks for reading.
